Great News! SB 42, the California Fair Elections Act, notched its first victory in the legislature by passing the Senate Elections Committee 4-1 yesterday!
SB 42 is our best hope for fighting against dominance of billionaires in politics by putting a measure on the ballot to allow any jurisdiction in California to pass public financing of campaigns to empower voters and let good candidates compete against billionaire-backed candidates. It passed after the committee heard directly from 42 Clean Money supporters and coalition partners!
This is the first of many steps needed for SB 42 to pass through the legislature to put the California Fair Elections Act on the ballot. It only gets harder from here.
That's why we're asking activists like you to help gather signatures for SB 42 at the many rallies and protests happening around the state! All the attendees instantly understand why we need public financing of campaigns so they're the perfect places to gather signatures.
Can you join our special Statewide Clean Money Activists Zoom meeting tomorrow night (Thurs, 4/3) at 7pm to talk about gathering and entering signatures for SB 42? We need your help, especially if you're already thinking of going to some of the rallies and protests!
Together we will create a democracy that is truly of, by, and for the people.

In February we attended a meeting to hear a panel discussion featuring panelist Rafael Mandelman, president of the board of supervisors. The panel also included a close aide to Daniel Laurie. The mayor isn’t beholden to major donors or special interests. This independence allows him to focus on practical solutions rather than political paybacks, which has helped foster a more collaborative relationship between the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor’s office.
Now, that is something new!!
